Development and validation of a new quantitative model of hematopoietic stem cell organization

In close co-operation of theoreticians with experimenters, this project aims to create a novel stochastic model concept of hematopoietic stem cells and validate it by comparison of computer simulations and experimental data. The autopoietic model is to attribute a multiplicity of observed phenomena like a functional stem cell heterogeneity, clonal competition and fluctuation, clonal deactivation, discordancy of in vivo and in vitro population assays, plasticity, etc. to a common mechanism of cellular development, which dynamically creates stabilized distributions of multivalent stem cell populations with consideration of cell - stroma interactions.
