Management of Health Information Systems (MaGIS)

The Management of Health Information Systems (MaGIS) working group aims to contribute to concrete improvements in research, teaching and services to better support healthy and sick people as well as medical professionals and researchers in preventing, curing and alleviating disease and in better understanding the causes and effects of human disease. This also includes supporting the professional activities of health professionals and researchers in a wide variety of health-related settings.

Our research focuses on the development of a consistent conceptual system for describing health information systems and their management and on the development of tools, methods and reference models for the management of health information systems. In addition, we are concerned with the development and improvement of health information system components and processes in a wide variety of health-related settings. Based on this research, we provide education that enables students to take on responsible positions in the software industry, in consulting companies and in the management of health information systems in hospitals and health networks, as well as to conduct independent research in medical informatics. We support the University Hospital Leipzig AöR, the Medical Faculty of the University of Leipzig and other healthcare institutions by providing targeted advice and implementing projects.

We are aware that our work and its results play a key role in shaping medicine and the healthcare system, including the personal relationship between healthy and sick people on the one hand and medical staff on the other. We regard the associated shared responsibility for the health of society and for healthy and sick people as an essential part of our professional activities in research, teaching and services.
